In Weimar, there is hardly a street, hardly a historic building, which does not reflect the tracks of the reciprocal history. Aesthetics and world spirits worked on the "Myth of Weimar". How important Weimar is for the world, is documented in the two ensembles, which have been on the World Cultural Heritage List of the UNESCO since 1996 and 1998: "Classical Weimar" and the "Bauhaus" with many individual historical monuments. Many paths lead through Weimar; through idyllic squares and through the winding alleyways with their shops and pubs. And many paths lead out of the town: For example to the summer residencies of Belvedere and Tiefurt.
Weimar contributes to the future with its tracks from the past and present. It is here that Cranach, Goethe, Schiller, Herder and Wieland wrote cultural history; it is here that poets, artists and musicians compete for the highest awards; it is here that the intellectual centre of the German Classics was found. Very soon the brightest minds of the era gathered at the "Court of Muses" of the Duchess Anna Amalia. And when this "Golden Age" came to an end, others came: With the work of Franz Liszt, Friedrich Nietzsche and the later founding of the Bauhaus, the tradition of creative movements and stirring exchange of ideas was continued.
3,5 million tourists come to the town every year and all are captured by the very special flair of Weimar, which has been awarded the title of "European Cultural City" in 1999. They stroll along the tracks of great minds or simply enjoy the charm of a small town, which welcomes the visitors with cosmopolitan atmosphere and hospitality. An exemplary renovated town centre as well as modern tourism infrastructure leaves hardly a wish unanswered, so that many guests come again and again and incorporate Weimar into their travel plans every year.
